Members
to the Village Board of Trustees are elected at-large
for four-year, overlapping terms. The Board President,
the Mayor, is also elected for a term of four years. The
Board of Trustees serves as the legislative body of the
Village, adopting Ordinances and Resolutions which become
Village Law. The Village Board of Trustees is also responsible
for appointing members of various statutory and advisory
boards including the Plan Commission, the Economic Development
Commission, and the Police and Fire Commission. Regular
Village Board meetings are the second and fourth Monday's of each month with a Workshop Session on the third Monday. Meetings will begin at 7:00 pm at the Village Hall unless otherwise posted.
All Board meetings are open to the public, and all citizens
are invited to attend.
Standing Committees
The Mayor and Village Board organize Standing Committees whose function is to review monthly the specific departments of the Village. Each committee is comprised of two Board members and Village Staff. Committees meet monthly and report any information back to the Village Board. The committees are as follows:
Development and Land Use: The Development and Land Use Committee reviews development and land use issues as they pertain to Village and Township planning areas. This committee works with the Plan Commission and Development Staff to review and update the comprehensive plan, zoning ordinances, sketch plan development, etc. The Development and Land Use Committee also acts as the Village’s liaison for intergovernmental relations between the Village, the School Districts, the Library District, the Park District, and the Fire Protection District.

Water and Sewer Committee: This Committee reviews Water and Sewer Department operation and maintenance activities, capital improvement programs, and long range utility line analysis, treatment plants and water supply planning.

Streets and Drainage Committee: This Committee reviews all aspects of streets and grounds operation and maintenance, related capital improvement programs, transportation plans and street lighting.

Works Superintendent Ron Sly.
Finance Committee: The Finance Committee reviews all financial aspects of the Village Government including personnel, business registration, permits, contractor registration and licensing, revenue enhancements, accounts receivable/payable, audits, budgets financial plans, and fixed assets accounting.

Public Safety Committee: The Public Safety Committee reviews all aspects of law enforcement and public safety planning. This Committee reviews the animal control and the communication system.

Public Improvements Committee: This Committee reviews all aspects of the Village building and grounds, Village open space, Village appearance, beautification, image, subdivision design standards, code compliance, building department, code enforcement, commuter parking lot, ADA public improvements, and other regulatory requirements.
