The Village of New Lenox, which is approximately 36 miles southwest of downtown Chicago and about 12 square miles in area, is located in the center of New Lenox Township and in the east central portion of Will County. The City of Joliet borders immediately to the west and the remainder of the Village is surrounded by unincorporated Will County.Other nearby communities include Mokena and Frankfort to the east,and Manhattan to the south. To the north of New Lenox are the Villages of Homer Glen and Lemont.Single-family residential dwellings are the predominant land use in New Lenox. The same is true for developed portions of the township, however agricultural uses are most common in the undeveloped portions of the township. Construction of most dwellings in the many new subdivisions are built to the prospective buyers specifications. Acreage is still available in attractive locations, suitable for the buyer interested in a rural setting.Multi-family construction also meets the desires of those seeking apartment or condominium dwellings. These units are available in either a lease-rental basis, investment purchase or owner occupancy.Commercial activity in the Village is primarily located along Route 30in several strip commercial centers and individual retail uses. The commercial uses meet the day-to-day convenience shopping needs of New Lenox residents. Light industrial activity and warehousing are found along the west side of the Gougar Road Corridor.The growth pattern for the Village of New Lenox continues to show a steady increase. Our updated census count in 2010 was 24,394.
