Administration

The Mayor and Village Board employ the services of a full-time Administrator who is the administrative arm of the Village working under the Board's direction. As chief administrative officer, the Village Administrator is responsible for the enforcement of Village codes and ordinances and recommends employee hiring to the Mayor and Board of Trustees. The Village Administrator also supervises all Village departmental operations.

Engineering

This department is responsible for providing engineering services for all public improvements and public construction in the Village. The work includes the review of plans and specifications for all subdivision developments, stormwater detention and off-site improvements associated with individual site developments. Work further includes wastewater treatment and collection expansion or replacement; water supply and distribution expansion or replacement; roadway construction; motor fuel tax funded contract maintenance; drainage and Village facilities improvements.

Community Development

This department is responsible for the overall development and code enforcement functions of the Village. The department can be separated into two functions, Planning & Development, and Building and Zoning Administration. The Planning & Development function administers all zoning petitions, while the Building and Zoning Administrator monitors all new building activities and related code compliance issues, including property maintenance, signs, and miscellaneous Village Ordinance dictates.

Economic Development

This department provides support for the Economic Development function of the Village. The goals of the department are to attract commercial developments and economic growth to the Village and to advertise and promote the Village of New Lenox by attending various trade shows and by participating in business groups throughout the Chicagoland area. The Economic Development function consists of constructing and maintaining a data base of existing developed properties, available developed sites, raw land, infrastructure availability, and similar attributes; creating and maintaining site inventories; and marketing and promoting the Village of New Lenox.

Public Works Department

The Department is comprised of 31 individuals responsible for the orderly operation of the Village Water Distribution System, Waste Water Collection and Treatment Facilities, and Streets and Grounds.

The Department maintains 75 miles of bituminous and concrete roadways as well as 502 overhead street lights. All hydrants, inlets, manholes, watermains valves and street signs are maintained by the Public Works Department. If you notice any problem with any of these items, please notify the Public Works Department at 485-6452, during non-working hours at 485-2500
