Water Reclamation Plant One | Excess Flow Treatment |
Lagoon
Excess flow was developed to handle major rain events
to keep sewage from backing up into homes or discharging
into streets.
How the Pond Works
The excess water that is sent to the pond goes through
a 3 step treatment prior to discharge to the creek (if
it cannot be sent back to the plant).
Stage 1: Biological Treatment
The water enters at one end of the lagoon where floating
aerators mix the water and provide air. The microorganisms
in the pond eat the sewage that comes in.
Stage 2: Physical Treatment
The water then flows to the back half o the lagoon where
remaining solids settle to the bottom.
Stage 3: Chemical Treatment
The water then flows to a chlorine contact tank where
a saturation of chlorine is added to kill any germs
or diseases that remain.
The water can then be safely discharged to the stream.
The EPA gives us standards to meet on this effluent
and any day it discharges, lab analysis is done to assure
we are meeting the standards.
