Primary Clarifiers
The flow is pumped to three settling basins. The water
flows slowly through those tanks with the heavy solids
settling to the bottom and the grease and oil floating
to the top. A collection mechanism pulls all the solids
which settle to the bottom to a hopper from which it
can be pumped to another area for processing. The grease
and oil is pushed to an area where it can be skimmed
off and sent on for further processing. 60% of the solids
which come to the plant are removed in this process,
the remaining dissolved solids move on to the next process.
