Chlorine Addition and Removal
The first part of chemical treatment is the addition
of chlorine to the sand filter effluent water. This
chlorine will kill any germs or disease carrying bacteria
which have survived the other forms of treatment. Since
the chlorine could be harmful to the living creatures
in the creek, it is removed with another chemical just
prior to final discharge to the stream.
