Water Reclamation Plant Two | Description |
As the Village grew south, there was a need for additional
sewage treatment. The Plant Two facility was originally
constructed in the early 1970’s. The original plant
was a small facility designed to serve the Country Creek
subdivision. Like Plant One, it has gone through modification
and significant growth over the years. It was last updated
in 1995 to serve 7,500. As the area continues to grow
it will be expanded again to serve the population and
to protect the nation’s waterways.
At this point, Plant Two is smaller and less complex
than Plant One, but it can produce an effluent as clean
and safe as Plant One. The plant effluent discharges
into the Jackson Branch Creek and works its way southwest
to the Des Plaines River. The water which leaves our
plant will eventually make its way down the Mississippi
River to the Gulf of Mexico. On its way it will be taken
out of the rivers an average of three times. The water
removed will be used at power plants for cooling, at
farms to water crops, and by cities where it is treated
and used for drinking water.
Like Plant One, Plant Two is a complex series of physical,
chemical, and biological processes designed to clean
the water and convert the solids to a safe crop nutrient.
Like Plant One, we have a State of Illinois permit
to operate and the State has established stringent standards
for the water that leaves that plant. We also have a
State permit to dispose of the sludge which we produce.
These permits require frequent laboratory analysis and
regular reporting to the State. The State periodically
reviews the plant records and they send field personal
out to sample our effluent. Take a flow tour of our
plant!
