UV Disinfection

We all hear about the ozone hole in the atmosphere and how this allows ultraviolet light into our atmosphere. We hear about how it can be harmful to us and possibly cause skin cancer. Well, we use this ultraviolet light to disinfect our plant effluent. After secondary treatment, the water passes through a bank of UV lights and any germs or diseases that remain are sterilized by the light. The light makes it impossible for them to reproduce and prevents them from harming humans or the environment. Since the lights are in the water, they are not dangerous to the plant personnel or anyone visiting the plant.
