Permits are required for most major home renovations, as well as many minor repairs, and projects such as driveways, sheds, pools, decks, and re-roofs. The permit process ensures that renovation work meets local building codes, thus making the building process-and the final product-safer for the resident or business owner.
Failure to secure a permit can result in fines and the costs associated with redoing work.
If you hire a contractor, make sure the contractor is registered with the village, and that they get the required permits. It is the property owner's responsibility to ensure that the permits are issued for any project.
Please visit the New Constructions & Building Renovations - Permits and Forms page for more information.
