“A Pathway to Hope and Healing”

In Support of Suicide Prevention Awareness

For the past five years the Village of New Lenox and the New Lenox Safe Community Coalition have hosted A Pathway to Hope and Healing,” in support of suicide prevention and awareness.  This event has typically featured breakout sessions, keynote speakers, panel discussions and resource tables.  However, with restrictions in place due to COVID-19, the event will be held virtually this year.

On Tuesday, September 1, 2020 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, “A Pathway to Hope and Healing” will be held via Zoom videoconference and will address the Emotional Impact of COVID-19.   Uncertainty brought on by the pandemic has been impacting people's mental health and increasing feelings of anxiety and depression.  Attendees will learn practical coping skills to manage the insurmountable stress.

The event’s featured speaker will be Felicia Houston, who has more than 20 years’ experience in the mental health field, with a BA in Psychology and a MA in Human Development Counseling from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.  Felicia is also a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and is currently the Community Development Liaison for UChicago Medicine at Ingalls Hospital.

Registration for this FREE program will be held via Eventbrite via this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/a-pathway-to-hope-and-healing-in-support-of-world-suicide-prevention-day-tickets-115416141787    Registrants will be sent a link to the Zoom videoconference in advance of the event.

Poet Audre Lorde wrote, “caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”  Current President of the Professional Women’s Network, Felicia Houston truly believes in that statement; her passion is inspiring and empowering people to make self-care a priority.  Through dynamic workshops and presentations, Felicia educates her audiences about mental health, wellness, and the importance of self-care.  This presentation is one that you won’t want to miss!
