The Community Development Department was established to better coordinate all aspects of the development process. The Community Development Department includes the functions of Building and Zoning, Economic Development, Engineering, and Planning and Development.
The Community Development Department
- reviews and issues building permits;
- oversees marketing campaigns to promote current businesses and attract new businesses;
- develops short- and long-range plans for Village facilities and infrastructure improvements;
- coordinates and directs projects through the Plan Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and Village Board;
- develops the comprehensive plan for the Village;
- and oversees the development and maintenance of the Village’s geographic information system.

The Community Development Department’s mission is to promote, guide and shape the community while providing professional advice, technical expertise and exceptional customer service to enhance the quality of life for the people who live, work and conduct business in the Village.
