Leaf Collection Program

2020 Fall Leaf Collection Information

Leaf Truck Program begins Monday, October 5, 2020 through Saturday, November 28, 2020 (weather permitting).

NuWay Leaf Pickup in the brown leaf only bags without a sticker on regular trash pickup days (Thursday & Friday).  This service will begin with your pick-up date on October 22nd or 23rd and ends with your pick-up date either on November 27th or November 28th. In 2020 it will be on Friday or Saturday due to the holiday week.

Leaf Truck Pickup Program

The Village is continuing the leaf collection service for residents.  The Village will send out leaf collection Equipment and vacuum your leaves from your parkway.  Residents must place the leaves in the parkway and not on the street.

The Truck begins on the north side of the village and works its way south each week.

Please follow these helpful guidelines to ensure that this service will operate quickly, safely, and efficiently.

  • Place leaves on the parkway parallel to the street and approximately 12-inches behind the curb and the edge of the pavement.  No farther than 3 feet from the curb.  Leaves CAN NOT be placed in the street or in the curb/gutter.  If the leaves are placed in the street or gutter, they have a greater chance of blowing and will obstruct the flow of storm water and cause street flooding during rain events.
  • Do not include any debris such as: garden materials, brush, cans, paper, bottles, branches, etc.  These foreign materials can cause damage to leaf collection personnel and equipment.
  • Do NOT place leaves behind obstacles such as: parked vehicles, trees, mailboxes, fire hydrants, streetlights, etc.  The machine is quite large and can't reach behind obstacles.  Leaves will not be picked up if blocked.

Alternative Options are also encouraged

In some neighborhoods where trees are not mature, utilizing a mulching lawn mower adds the leaves back into the lawn, providing nutrients to the soil.

Free Leaf Disposal Program

The Village of New Lenox will continue to offer its residents free leaf disposal.  Each Fall during a 6 week period, leaves that are bagged in the brown paper yard-waste bags are collected free of charge to the residents.

As part of the Village's contract with our disposal service, Village residents who place their leaves in brown paper yard-waste bags do not have to affix yard-waste stickers on the bags during the 6 week period in fall, and the 2 week period in spring (which begins the first full week of April).  These yard-waste bags are collected on the same day as your regular garbage collection.

Please note: Yard-Waste bags filled with grass clippings, garden waste, and brush still require that yard-waste stickers be affixed to each bag or bundle.

Leaf Bags for Senior Citizens

In addition to the free leaf collection for bagged leaves, the Village offers ten free yard-waste bags per fall for our senior citizen households.  Each fall, our senior residents are provided ten free yard-waste bags.  We would like to remind Village residents who are senior citizens (over the age of 65) to stop by the Village Hall to get their packet of 10 yard-waste bags.

Please provide a form of identification as proof of senior residency and eligibility.
